Is this really completely free?
Yes, 100%. YANA is a non-profit peer-to-peer emotional wellbeing community. You will never be asked for fees, donations, or subscription payments.
Will my conversation remain private and confidential?
Absolutely. What you discuss with your peer listener is strictly confidential within YANA community bounds. We collect zero medical records, zero full addresses, and zero national identity card details.
What will the volunteer's first message say?
We understand you might share your device with family or housemates. Our volunteers will never send alarming or clinical messages. They will send a gentle text: "Hi [Name], this is [Volunteer] from YANA. Is now a comfortable time to connect?"
Are YANA peer volunteers medical doctors or psychiatrists?
No. YANA volunteers are empathetic peer companions trained in active listening, Psychological First Aid (PFA), and de-escalation. We do not provide clinical psychiatric diagnosis, prescriptions, or formal medical therapy.
How long until a volunteer contacts me?
Our coordination team reviews intakes continuously. You will typically be contacted within 24 hours via your preferred contact channel (WhatsApp text/call or Zoom invite).
What if I am feeling actively suicidal right now?
If you or someone you know is in immediate crisis, please do not wait for an intake pairing. Immediately call 1926 (Sri Lanka Mental Health Helpline, 24/7) or 1333 (CCCline, toll-free).
